Valley Fiesta is on this weekend!
Brisbane City Council has put together a FREE weekend of music, theatre, performing arts and visual arts embracing all corners of the Valley arts community. Incorporating the Mexican Day Of The Dead theme, Valley Fiesta 2009 is set across three stages – Naked All Sorts Mall Stage, SAE Brisbane Street Stage and the Chinatown Mall Theatre Stage.
In addition to the already announced program, Valley Fiesta also welcomes a number of Satellite Events running in conjunction with Fiesta throughout the weekend. These include Hope For Our Homeless, Zombie Walk, It’s Bazaar Fashion Market and Free Doors across a number of venues in the Valley.
Brisbane Lord Mayor Campbell Newman said this year’s Fiesta had been returned to its roots as a community event, with theatre acts, art works and markets all complementing the music.
“Valley Fiesta has arrived again and I’m thrilled that we were able to save it and bring it back bigger and better than ever,” Cr Newman said.
“This year we’ve worked hard to return it to a more community-friendly event and I encourage everyone to come down and experience what Valley Fiesta is all about.
“And while you’re there make sure you pop into one of the many local shops and restaurants and give them a hand during these tough economic times.”
Cr Newman will be joining Valley Fiesta for a special opening ceremony featuring Chrislyn Hamilton (Australian Idol) and Kev Carmody at midday on Saturday at Brunswick St Mall.

Valley Fiesta announces unique Visual Arts Program
Valley Fiesta broadens its community reach with an inclusive arts program incorporating thirteen galleries across the entertainment precinct.
Brisbane City Council is proud to incorporate a unique visual arts element to this year’s Valley Fiesta with the inclusion of an ‘Art Walk’ throughout the galleries of the valley.
Lord Mayor Campbell Newman said adding visual arts to the program was part of Council’s plan to make Valley Fiesta a more community-friendly event.
“When we rescued Valley Fiesta from collapse this year we decided that we take the opportunity to return the event to its roots as a celebration of Brisbane’s cutting-edge arts scene that people of all ages could enjoy,” Cr Newman said.
“With a number of art galleries springing up all over the city, visual artists are becoming increasingly important to Brisbane’s creative scene and hopefully the ‘Art Walk’ will pull a new clientele to the event that we’ve never had before.”
