ANN STREET PARTY RETURNS!

The iconic ANN STREET PARTY returns to Brisbane for Valley Fiesta 2010 after a three-year absence. Joining forces with art collective Nine Lives, the ANN STREET PARTY will transform the face of the Valley on Friday 10 September with films, exhibition, fashion, performances and live music in shop fronts along Ann St.

Take a peek into the unexpected with window displays of installations from Brisbane’s best new artists through Valley retailers and restaurants. The shops participating in this year’s event include Ultra Suite, Drobe, Violent Green, Blonde Venus, Mod Cons, Laruche, Akira, Subfusco, Nelson Molloy, The Outpost, Always Habit, Principessa.

The artists and performers expected to make an appearance include Nine Lives, Outcast Opera,(Syd) and Alswieler (NZ) to name a few. 4C Arts Collective, Panther Concepts, Dead Puppets Society, Dot.AY, Kitty Horton, Kirin J Callinan, inbetweenspaces, Beastman

From 7pm – 1am, Club Fiesta opens to the public at the Cnr of Ann and Ballow St for the Ann St Party AFTER PARTY with a bar, live DJs and interactive art installations. The Club will also be open from 2pm – 1am on Saturday 11 September and Sunday 12 September from 12pm – 6pm.

NINE LIVES is a gallery space just off Ann St. in the heart of Brisbane's Fortitude Valley. Featuring local, interstate and the odd international artist. They will be working with Strut & Fret to put together a line up of extraordinary talent for one night only to celebrate Ann St. alongside Valley Fiesta and more!

The ANN STREET PARTY and CLUB FIESTA is supported by Brisbane City Council through the Lord Mayor's Creative City Initiative. The Brisbane City Council Creative City Initiative focuses on fostering and showcasing the creative work of young people in Brisbane through the provision of support, mentoring and seed funding. The aim is to support young creatives to become actively engaged in Brisbane’s creative industries. By partnering with Valley Fiesta, the Creative City Initiative is providing opportunities for young producers to develop and present their new creative projects within a vibrant festival framework.

ANN STREET PARTY is inspired by Ann's Street Party, which was originally conceived and produced in 2005, 2006 and 2007 by a collective of young emerging artists (Friends of Ann) with the generous support of industry partners. ANN STREET PARTY gratefully acknowledges the artists and organisations that inspired this event.

Valley Fiesta - First Program Announcement

Valley Fiesta 2010 is set to ignite the Valley Entertainment Precinct – quite literally. With a killer line up of incredible indie bands, as well as some new initiatives, Valley Fiesta2010 promises to deliver a vibrant and diverse program of arts, music, food and fashion.

THE NOT TO BE MISSED HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS YEAR’S FIESTA includes Live Music, Art, Food and Fashion events:

The Pyrophone Juggernaut, a 15 metre high, multi-octave fire organ, is the largest in the world. This flaming musical sculpture, creates a percussive spectacle, in an unearthly concert of heart pulsing rhythms. Erupting nightly on the hour, from 6pm in Chinatown Mall, this awe-inspiring experience will be the centre piece of Fiesta.

‘A percussive spectacle of ‘Orwellian’ proportions, where the energetic performances of the artists pulse hand in hand with the awe inspiring furnace driven melodies. You got to hear it yourself to believe it’ ODDSTRUMENT.COM

Festival Director, Scott Maidment says ‘Brisbane has never seen anything like this! Made from reclaimed metals, this is truly amazing and not to be missed. Gas ignited instead of wind, fires up the tuned pipes creating a perforamnce that will truly shake the walls of Chinatown Mall’

The iconicAnn Street Party returns to the Valley after a three year absence. The face of the Valley will transform as films, exhibitions, fashion, performances and live music take over the shopfronts of the Valley’s retailers and restaurants. Expect the unexpected, with this Nine Lives collaboration.  

Fine Art of Dress will see Jan Murphy, Philip Bacon and Heiser Galleries host a special event of exhibitions and fashion parades from Easton Pearson, Paul Hunt and Camargue. Many of the Fortitude Valley galleries and art spaces, including Jugglers, Ryan Renshaw Gallery and Nine Lives will also open their doors with a series of special events of live music, artist workshops and talks.

Come down for Yum Cha Sunday in Chinatown Mall, as the restaurants of the Valley unite to serve Brisbane an outdoor feast for big families of friends with big appetites. Fiesta wants to see everyone eating with their hands and chopsticks, Yum Cha style.

Teaming up with the music industry showcase and conference, BIG SOUND, the Valley is going to be a week long, live music experience like no other! Fiesta announces it’s first round of bands that includes THE JOHN STEEL SINGERS, YACHT CLUB DJS, HERMITUDE, LAST DINOSAURS, SPOD, LOVE CONNECTION, ROCKETSMITHS,  SEJA, EAGLE & THE WORM, PARADES, BALL PARK MUSIC, JINJA SAFARI, DISCO NAP, FERGUS BROWN, DAN PARSONS, DEAD SHADES, COURAGE, POLAROID FAME and THOM THUM (Tom Tom Crew).

New to this year’s Fiesta, is the hip hop stage with Born Fresh Records and Red Tape Entertainment presenting "Born Renegades," a Saturday afternoon of quality Queensland bred hip hop including The Optimen, Eloquence and Truths, Pure Product, Seven, VegasAces, Prophet Rayza with hosting by the Crate Creeps. Also, the BBoy comp, Judy Breaks is your chance to see Queensland's hottest BBoys and Bgirls battle it out as they headspin, uprock and compete for cash prizes.

Director of Strut & Fret, Scott Maidment,  says,’As a Brisbane company that has partied at Fiesta over the years, we’re now very excited to be bringing all the unique elements of the Valley together in a program that will appeal to new and past Fiesta attendees. Brisbane's biggest street party teams up with Big Sound to bring the best live music to the Valley. 10 - 12 September 2010.

Valley Fiesta is one of Brisbane's most loved events, celebrating the spoils of Fortitude Valley’s live music scene, fashion, food and arts!

Valley Fiesta 2010 is a not to be missed celebration of Brisbane's renowned live music scene, plus a host of entertainment, arts, fashion and culinary delights, over three days and nights.

September is set to come alive in the Valley Entertainment Precinct with the appointment of the unique production house Strut & Fret to manage Valley Fiesta in Brisbane for the next three years.

Joining forces with Q Music's internationally renowned music market, Big Sound, Valley Fiesta promises to be a powerhouse of local, national and international music of all genres from September 10 – 12, 2010. Over the next three years, Big Sound and Valley Fiesta, will work together to bring value to each other's programs and activities and further raise the profile of Brisbane as being the live music capital of Australia.

Brisbane City Council is the major foundation sponsor of Valley Fiesta. The Brisbane City Council and Lord Mayor recognises the importance of supporting the Valley to help develop local live music and retain the artistic integrity of this unique area.
