Since its beginnings as a free all ages outdoor event to shine the spotlight on Brisbane's eclectic music scenes, Valley Fiesta has since evolved into Brisbane's biggest and best street party. The three day alcohol-free event has become an institution in Brisbane, being the launching pad for countless Brisbane musicians and having some of Australia's top bands gracing the stages. Fiesta now attracts over 100,000 people to the Valley Precinct over the three days!

Of course, Fiesta isn't all about the music! Performing arts, street theatre, art and fashion all have their special place within Fiesta, and the 2009 Festival will be no exception. Fortitude Valley's venues, nightclubs, retailers and cafes will also be getting into the fetive spirit with their own special events held during the Fiesta weekend.

In 2009, Valley Fiesta is being organised by the Brisbane City Council. Lord Mayor Campbell Newman will be kicking off Valley Fiesta 2009 at a special opening ceremony that will feature an intimate performance by the legendary Kev Carmody.

“Our aim for taking over Valley Fiesta this year was to make it all about the music again,” Cr Newman said.

“Brisbane has long been at the forefront of Australia’s music scene and the diversity of this year’s line up will ensure we stay there.”
